CICL 2020 – Call For Papers

12th Annual Conference on Innovation and Communications Law (CICL)

May 7-8 2020, Vienna and Krems (Austria)

The Center of IP, Media and Innovation Law (Danube University Krems) and the IT | IP Law Group (Vienna University of Economics and Business) will jointly host and co-organize the 12th Annual Conference on Innovation and Communications Law (CICL) on May 7-8 2020 at venues in Vienna and Krems (Austria).

Launched in 2008, CICL is jointly organized by the University of Turku Faculty of Law (Finland), the University of Eastern Finland Law School, the University of Louisville School of Law (USA), Michigan State University College of Law (USA), Texas A&M University School of Law (USA), the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of the University of Szeged (Hungary), and IPR University Center (Finland). Each year, CICL brings together top scholars exploring issues in intellectual property law, communications law, and issues related to the intersection of the two. The annual CICL conference has been held at leading institutions around the world, and new attendees this year will join an already well-established community.

This years’ conference stands under the general topic of

SOCIETY IN TRANSITION:

Challenges and Implications for Innovation and Communications Law

The organizers of CICL 2020 would like to invite papers on this topic. Possible sub-themes include, but are not limited to:

  • Legal and economic challenges posed by the shift in practices of communicating, creating media content and innovations, o the omnipresence of disruptive digital business models,
    o the dematerialization and digitization of tangible objects, and
    o territorial legal regimes in borderless environments.
  • Different approaches in different legal traditions addressing social and legal challenges.
  • Possibilities for innovation and communication law to balance interests of stakeholders. The venues of the conference will be in Vienna and Krems. Transport to Krems will be provided. Participants can book their accommodation in Vienna only. Participants and presenters have to cover their own travel and accommodation costs. The CICL does not have scholarships available. To submit a paper for presentation at CICL 2020, please submit your proposal via www.cicl2020.at by January 30, 2020. Abstracts will be reviewed by the CICL consortium on a rolling basis.
